Wood Burning Sauna Installation Guide
There are no codes or regulations specifically dealing with wood burning sauna heaters. Before installing the heater you should check with local municipal officials to see if they have any guidelines to offer. Then have them inspect and approve the installation before you use the sauna.
The following installation information is to be used as a guideline only. Please consult the relevant authorities for rules and regulations regarding your wood burning sauna installation:
1. Sauna heater should be installed on a non-combustible surface (i.e. concrete pad).
2. Set the heater in place then brick around the extended neck. The brick area should be at least 4’ wide by 4’ high.
3. The heater should be no closer than 18” to any combustible surface. Using fire-resistant cement board will reduce the air space requirement.
4. Use a 6” stove pipe and squeeze it to fit over the oval outlet at the top of the stove.
5. Install a damper in the stovepipe.
6. Use double insulated stovepipe where it passes through the wall or ceiling.
