Pre-cut Sauna Kits Make Great Saunas
By Pertti Olavi Jalasjaa Great Saunas knows just how popular do-it-yourself projects can be with people who enjoy working with their hands. We also realize that not everyone has the time or patience for tasks that are overly complicated. That’s why we make it a point to ensure that our pre-cut sauna kits can be assembled quickly and easily while still providing the satisfaction that comes with tackling an endeavor that’s just enough of a challenge to be fun. We want every person who buys a Great Saunas pre-cut sauna kit to enjoy the experience of building it. We also want our customers to have complete confidence in the materials we include in each do-it-yourself or DIY kit. For this reason, we offer detailed lists on our website of just what our customers can expect in the pre-cut sauna kits they order from our state-of-the-art sauna factory. For example, our deluxe DIY sauna kit includes: 1”x4” tongue and groove clear, kiln-dried Western Red Cedar, supplied in full-length boards, for the sauna’s walls and ceiling; two-tier heavy-duty sauna benches of 2”x4” clear Western Red Cedar; a cedar sauna door complete with window, door frame, casing, stops and all door hardware; cedar duckboard flooring; an aluminium foil vapor barrier for the sauna’s walls and ceiling; a vapor proof sauna light; a sauna heater with controls and igneous rocks included; all necessary hardware, louvered vents and galvanized nails and screws, and our highly-acclaimed, comprehensive illustrated instruction book “The Art of Sauna Building.” At Great Saunas, we also strive to make sure our customers know the various options available to them when they are selecting their pre-cut sauna kits. These options range from the actual physical dimensions of the sauna and the wattage of the sauna heater to the type of sauna door and benches, among other examples. Because we are a sauna manufacturer as well as a sauna retailer, Great Saunas craftsmen are able to produce sauna kits to buyers’ custom specifications. That means we can make any sauna layout you need, with custom features such as walls, doors and benches all entirely possible. Potential sauna buyers can also look to the Great Saunas website for the rough-in requirements for each style of pre-cut sauna kit we carry as well as details on the time, skill and tools required to assemble the sauna unit. Our deluxe DIY sauna kit, for example, typically requires a building time of between 16 and 24 hours, not including the time needed to frame and insulate the unit. We take great pride in the quality of our pre-cut sauna kit materials, especially the Western Red Cedar we package in our kits. Western Red Cedar’s unique cell structure and low density give it an insulation value superior to most other species of softwood. It has been rated the best softwood for paint holding ability and natural durability against decay; it lays flat, stays straight, and retains fasteners well; it is renowned for its high impermeability to liquids, and it responds well to cutting, sawing, nailing, planing, boring, screwing, mortising, moulding, gluing and staining. For a do-it-yourself sauna kit, Western red cedar is truly a sensational softwood. As for the energy-efficient sauna heaters Great Saunas includes in our DIY sauna kits, they are carefully handcrafted with stainless steel to provide a lifetime of enjoyable use. Our sauna heaters feature an improved heat release system that allows virtually all of the heat to be circulated into the sauna room, keeping the heater and elements much cooler, resulting in longer element life. And our customers can be assured that all of our sauna heaters meet the latest UL, CE and CSA standards and safety requirements. As if assembling a Great Saunas pre-cut sauna kit wasn’t enjoyable enough, the inclusion of our book “The Art of Sauna Building” makes the experience of owning a home sauna kit even more rewarding. In addition to providing a brief history of sauna use and offering step-by-step instruction in sauna construction and installation, “The Art of Sauna Building” also gives numerous tips on how to get the most enjoyment out of your new sauna. Whether you’re a novice sauna enthusiast or a long-time sweat bath aficionado, “The Art of Sauna Building” is a good book worth a long look.
